Job summary

Metrolinx is seeking an experienced Senior Planning Officer to lead strategic and technical transportation planning for bus services and related initiatives. You will engage in project development, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure alignment with corporate objectives in a dynamic transit environment.

The role requires strong project management, analytical, and communication skills, with experience in transit planning, data strategies, and leadership in a unionized setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in transportation/transit with proven project management and technical analysis skills.
• Ability to work as a team member and provide team leadership.
• Proven project management skills to coordinate several complex projects under pressure, meeting schedule and budget commitments.
• Strong analytical, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices, including collective agreement and unionized environments.
• Ability to integrate transit planning with corporate objectives, market research, and land use planning.
• Ability to project and substantiate the impact of service level changes on manpower, budget, and equipment.
• Experience with ArcGIS and geospatial analysis would be an asset.
• Experience with Python, SQL, R and PowerBI would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and technical transportation planning to develop long- and short-term plans.
• Engage in all stages of project development and execution related to bus service planning.
• Lead negotiations and collaborate with stakeholders to secure support for proposed actions.
• Assess and develop data strategies to maintain scheduling data for corporate needs.
• Plan and oversee long-term platform allocations and passenger amenities.
• Strategically evaluate and optimize the use of resources and facilities to support growth and efficiency.
