Position Summary

The Senior Technologist, Imaging Service is responsible for the safe repair, performance assurance, preventive maintenance, and incoming inspection of imaging systems. The position works directly with a wide variety of health care professionals (e.g., physicians, nurses, medical radiation technologists, and support staff) and medical equipment vendors.

The Imaging Service team supports Molecular Imaging; Digital Radiography, Ultrasound, Breast Imaging, Computed Tomography, Fluoroscopy, and Angiography systems. This position will work with our Molecular Imaging team.

Duties

  • Maintains responsibility for the technical support of imaging equipment within the area of responsibility (i.e., particular modality, model of equipment, site, etc.).
  • Ensures the safe maintenance and repair of medical equipment.
  • Meets regularly with clinical users to discuss service support issues. Works closely with the clinical equipment users to ensure they are always up to date on the service status of the equipment, arranging for all required equipment service under area of responsibility.
  • Schedules and performs regularly scheduled maintenance (e.g., preventive maintenance, dosimetry testing) and ensures these are completed on schedule.
  • Participates in the technical support of equipment through its life cycle, which may include the following activities:
    • Request for Proposal development
    • Product evaluation (e.g., image quality comparison)
    • Equipment Installation planning (room layouts, etc.)
    • Checking Room Construction (verifying lead, system placement, etc.)
    • Equipment Installation
    • Ensures that HARP and other acceptance/relevant testing are performed on new equipment.
    • Equipment service support
    • Equipment end of life prediction.
  • Maintains and repairs medical imaging equipment within the area of responsibility.
  • Works closely with other team members in providing technical support.
  • Maintains work documentation and equipment inventory information.
  • Participates in the selection and evaluation of medical equipment.
  • Provides in-service training and consultation to promote the proper use and care of equipment.
  • Performs risk management activities (e.g., incident investigations, managing safety alerts/recalls, proactively identifying safety-related issues).
  • Performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies, and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.

Minimum Requirements

  • Completion of a 3-year community college program in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology (or recognized equivalent) is required.
  • Seven (7) years related experience required.
  • Significant experience supporting Medical Imaging equipment in a clinical environment is preferred.
  • Experience working in a hospital environment preferred.
  • Excellent electronic and programming skills are required.
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) or other equivalent provincial technology association is an asset.
  • Certification as a Biomedical Engineering Technologist through the ACI is an asset.
  • Membership in provincial or national clinical/biomedical engineering society (e.g., Clinical Engineering Society of Ontario (CESO), Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society (CMBES)) is an asset.
