Base pay range

CA$140,000.00/yr - CA$200,000.00/yr

About the Role

As a Tax Manager, you will oversee Canadian tax compliance and planning responsibilities, handling a diverse range of clients and industries, including high net worth individuals, investments, cross-border complexities, and owner-managed businesses. Your role will involve advising on tax strategies, complex accounting matters, and providing counsel on restructuring, acquisitions, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with senior team members and partners in developing and implementing long-term tax planning strategies, focusing on Canadian tax compliance and private tax matters.
  • Manage multiple client engagements, actively identifying, evaluating, and resolving tax risks and exposures.
  • Prepare and review personal, corporate, trust, and partnership tax returns, including various tax information forms and election forms.
  • Identify, document, and implement tax strategies to optimize business opportunities, documenting these strategies in memos or client letters.
  • Liaise with tax authorities and clients regarding tax audits, appeals, and positions.
  • Analyze tax law changes' impact on cross-border activities, providing proactive recommendations.
  • Review tax provisions, corporate filings, and information returns prepared by junior accountants.
  • Collaborate with the engagement team and client management to address complex tax issues.
  • Stay updated on current tax developments and apply tax knowledge effectively to client situations.
Experience and Requirements
  • 5+ years of recent public accounting experience, specializing in Canadian tax compliance and planning.
  • CPA designation with completion or nearing completion of the In-depth Tax Program.
  • Strong understanding of relevant tax legislation, corporate, personal, and trust tax planning and compliance.
  • Ability to manage teams, delegate work, and deliver high-quality results.
  • Proficiency in accounting and tax software such as Caseware, JazzIt, and Quickbooks.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
