The Opportunity

For someone who has built a strong technical foundation in public practice and worked with complex corporate structures, this role offers the opportunity to bring that experience in-house and have a direct impact on how tax decisions are made and executed. You will stay close to the technical work, with exposure to tax planning, corporate reorganizations, transactions, CRA matters, and complex Canadian tax issues, while managing external advisors and helping guide the organization's broader tax strategy.
Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement tax processes, systems, controls, and governance practices to support an effective and scalable tax function.

- Identify and monitor tax risks, establish priorities, and provide senior leadership with clear visibility into the organization's tax position and upcoming obligations.
- Provide practical tax guidance to Finance and senior leadership and help ensure tax considerations are incorporated into business decisions.
- Identify opportunities to improve the organization's approach to tax reporting, documentation, compliance, and risk management.
Canadian Tax Compliance
- Own the preparation, review, and coordination of Canadian corporate income tax filings, including T2 returns, elections, information returns, and supporting schedules.
- Coordinate information gathering across Finance to ensure filings are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation supporting tax filings and positions.
- Monitor relevant Canadian tax developments and assess their potential impact on the organization.
Tax Planning, Reorganizations & Transactions
- Participate in tax planning involving complex corporate structures, reorganizations, internal restructurings, M&A activity, financings, rollovers, and other transactions.
- Work with senior leadership, internal stakeholders, and external advisors to assess tax considerations and support planning and decision-making.
- Coordinate execution steps, elections, filings, and supporting documentation.
- Identify potential tax risks and help ensure transactions are implemented in accordance with agreed tax and business objectives.
CRA Audits & Tax Matters
- Lead and coordinate responses to CRA audits, reviews, and information requests.
- Work with internal stakeholders and external advisors to develop responses, compile supporting documentation, and manage timelines.
- Support audit strategy and tax disputes while maintaining strong documentation for positions taken.
External Advisor Management
- Serve as the key internal liaison with external tax advisors, legal counsel, and auditors.
- Scope and coordinate external engagements, review deliverables, and appropriately challenge recommendations.
- Translate technical advice into practical internal action plans and ensure recommendations are implemented correctly.
- Coordinate with external specialists on transfer pricing, U.S. tax, and other cross-border matters where appropriate.
