Job summary

Canadian Railway Services Inc. is seeking a Senior Structural Mechanical Engineer in Montréal to lead the design, analysis, validation and optimization of structural and mechanical components for rolling stock.

You will guide projects through lifecycle stages from concept to refurbishment and provide technical leadership. Responsibilities include calculations, validation against standards, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with production, suppliers and project teams.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in rolling stock, rail transportation, or related engineering environments.
  • Experience in heavy vehicles, structural design or transportation engineering is an asset.
  • Ability to perform and review load calculations, load paths and reaction forces.
  • Strong knowledge of stress analysis and structural calculations.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks).
  • Experience with structural analysis tools (HyperMesh, SimSolid).
  • Familiarity with welding, fatigue design and bolted joints is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/French is considered an asset.

Job description

As a Senior Structural Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design, analysis, validation, and optimization of structural and mechanical components for passenger and freight rail vehicles.

You will support projects throughout their lifecycle, from concept development and structural validation to manufacturing support, troubleshooting, and refurbishment. As a senior team member, you will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and support key engineering decisions.

What We're Looking For
Education
  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience & Technical Competencies
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in rolling stock, rail transportation, or related engineering environments.
  • Experience in heavy vehicles, structural design or transportation engineering is considered an asset.
  • Ability to perform and review load calculations, load paths, reaction forces and structural design decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of stress analysis, engineering mathematics and structural calculations.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Experience with structural analysis tools (e.g., HyperMesh, SimSolid).
  • Strong understanding of weldments, fatigue design, bolted joints and structural steel design.
  • Familiarity with rolling stock maintenance and lifecycle challenges.
  • Strong technical communication and reporting skills.
  • Manufacturing experience is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
