Job summary

Canadian Railway Services Inc. is seeking a Senior Structural Mechanical Engineer in Montréal to lead the design, analysis, validation and optimization of structural and mechanical components for rolling stock.

You will guide projects through lifecycle stages from concept to refurbishment and provide technical leadership. Responsibilities include calculations, validation against standards, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with production, suppliers and project teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in rolling stock, rail transportation, or related engineering environments.
• Experience in heavy vehicles, structural design or transportation engineering is an asset.
• Ability to perform and review load calculations, load paths and reaction forces.
• Strong knowledge of stress analysis and structural calculations.
• Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks).
• Experience with structural analysis tools (HyperMesh, SimSolid).
• Familiarity with welding, fatigue design and bolted joints is a plus.
• Bilingual English/French is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of structural and mechanical components for rolling stock.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, models, and technical documentation.
• Perform and validate structural assessments using hand calculations and FEA methods.
• Validate designs against applicable standards and regulations (APTA, AAR, Transport Canada, EN/UIC).
• Apply structural, manufacturing and welding standards to support safe and compliant designs.
• Support testing, inspections, design reviews and field investigations.
• Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Ensure engineering deliverables meet safety, quality and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, suppliers and project teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
