OpenLoop is building the future of healthcare infrastructure. We seek a Senior Staff Applied AI Engineer to shape the AI platform, set agent runtime strategy, and lead production LLM efforts with a focus on safety, cost, and reliability.

You will interface with product and clinical teams, establish best practices, and mentor engineers new to AI while delivering scalable, secure AI services for patient support. This role offers a fast-paced, impactful environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or related field.
• 12+ years software engineering with tech lead/principal scope.
• 2+ years building/operating production LLM-based systems.
• Deep hands-on AI experience across agent runtime, evaluation, and related stack.
• Experience measuring AI quality with evaluation sets and test harnesses.
• Led small teams or zero-to-one initiatives in greenfield settings.
• Strong ability to explain AI trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for agent runtimes, tool calls, context handling, and sandboxing.
• Build systems to prove AI quality, including regression tests and evals.
• Manage multi-provider model access, versioning, and fallbacks.
• Monitor production behavior, attribute AI spend, and enforce guardrails.
• Connect agents to real data via retrieval and prompt design.
• Collaborate with operations to convert human workflows into agent workflows.
• Ensure PHI protection, data access controls, and security against misuse.
• Influence infrastructure choices on GCP and data platforms.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to AI engineers.
• Communicate AI trade-offs to product, ops, and clinical stakeholders.
