Kerr Financial Group is looking for a self-motivated professional to work as a Senior Staff Accountant for our Client Services Team within the Montreal office.

We require the Senior Staff Accountant to be an excellent communicator, proficient in Excel, tax and accounting software, and possess a strong client service focus with the ability to be client facing. You must possess a good working knowledge of Canadian taxation and GAAP.

Job Overview

As Senior Staff Accountant, you will provide full cycle accounting, tax filing services, sales tax reporting where necessary, and supporting schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Compilation Report file preparation, Financial Statements, and note disclosures for investment holding companies, small Canadian operating consulting companies, trusts and charitable foundations
  • Preparation of T1 personal tax, T2 corporation tax, T3 intervivos trust and estate tax returns and T5 summaries & supplementary forms
  • Calculation of Capital Dividend Account (CDA) balances, General Rate Income Pool (GRIP) Balances and Eligible and Non-eligible Refundable Dividend Tax on Hand (RDTOH) balances
  • Preparation of T3010 Charity Returns and GST/HST returns
  • Preparation of T1135 foreign income verification disclosures
  • Preparation of standard corporation minutes and resolutions
  • Preparation and filing of T4 summary and supplementary forms including payroll calculations, records of employment and remittance of at-source deductions
  • Calculation of tax estimates and annual tax instalments and coordination of remittances to respective governments
  • Review of Notices of Assessment and response to government Requests for Information (RFI)
  • Communication with clients and third parties with respect to preparing or gathering information and concerning remittances, instalments, progress of files, inquiries

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian GAAP and Canadian taxation
  • Full-cycle Canadian accounting experience
  • Advanced computer skills: Microsoft Excel (MACROS) and MS Outlook, VBA is an asset
  • Experienced with accounting and tax software applications: Tax Prep (T1, T2, T3) and Caseware
  • Experience with QuickBooks and Write-up preferable
  • Proven ability to analyze problems coupled with strong oral and written communication skills, capable of producing clear reports, letters, and emails
  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities and manage projects to timely completion
  • Self-starter and team player, able to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-focused environment
  • Fluency in the English and French languages, both verbal and written

Education and Experience

  • CPA designation with a minimum of 4+ years’ experience in full accounting cycle.
  • Public accounting experience including the preparation of Canadian personal/corporate tax returns and the compilation of Financial Statements.
