Vancouver Island Health Authority in Duncan, BC seeks a Senior Specialist, Clinical Informatics to lead the transformation of enterprise-wide clinical systems and translate clinical data across the care continuum.

Reporting to the Director, you will collaborate with senior leadership, clinicians and IT staff to advance evidence-based practice, support the Electronic Health Record rollout, and ensure safety and quality through change management.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related health discipline (e.g., Nursing, Health Information Science).
  • Minimum seven years in a health care environment with clinical IT leadership experience.
  • Experience integrating computer technologies into clinical practice and data architecture.
  • Proven change management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director or designate, the Senior Specialist works in collaboration with Senior Leadership, Clinical Leaders, Service and Program Managers and Directors, physicians, and staff across Island Health care sectors and other health authorities to lead and promote the transformation of complex, enterprise wide clinical systems change and the overall translation of clinical data across the continuum of care.

As an integral member of a regional multi-disciplinary team, the Senior Specialist leads and informs major, complex regional initiatives, the integration of computer and communications technologies and clinical change initiatives that result in the automation and/or enhancement of evidence-based practice, access to patient/client information and clinical documentation via the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The Senior Specialist works to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, accountability and sustainability of clinical initiatives that assist in the successful transitioning to a fully integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) throughout Island Health programs and services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a related health discipline such as Nursing, Health Information Science, or patient care/clinical related specialty and a minimum of seven (7) years' experience in a health care environment, including extensive experience leading the integration of computer technologies in clinical practice, regional policy and practice development and in establishing integrated clinical/systems environment through clinical change management methodologies, and clinical data architecture across the care continuum.

The salary range for this position is $108,147 (min) to $135,184 (midpoint) to $155,461(max) per annum (based on 1 FTE). Salary placement is between min and midpoint, based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the opening of Quw’utsun Valley Hospital / Quw’utsun Hulitun-ew’t-hw. This position supports Operational Readiness for clinical technologies in alignment with the project schedule. The role liaises across multiple teams; facilitates knowledge transfer; monitors technical build progression; supports test script development; and contributes to testing and validation events. The role provides direction to the supporting team of Nurse informaticists and Project Analysts assigned to Operational Readiness activities.
