Job summary

Magical, based in Toronto, is building an agentic automation platform for healthcare. We’re seeking a Senior Engineer who will own the systems powering AI agents, set technical direction, and drive end-to-end delivery of core backend systems.

You will transform unstructured inputs into dependable automations, improve runtime reliability, and contribute to specialized agents for critical healthcare tasks. This hybrid role is based in our Toronto office.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Backend systems deployed in production.
• Turn ambiguous requirements into a clear technical plan.
• Strong systems design: distributed systems, databases, APIs, queues, observability.
• Experience integrating AI tools into development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend and full-stack systems for AI agents and healthcare automations.
• Set technical direction within a project or product area when requirements are unclear.
• Develop features for automation creation, workflow pathways, testing, editing, and production run reporting.
• Improve runtime reliability with run state management, queues, idempotency, alerts, and dashboards.
• Own critical services from architecture through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
