Reporting to the Manager, Security the Senior Security Advisor will assist in the development and implementation of Security Programs and will contribute to the Integrated Safety and Loss Management System (ISLMS). The Senior Security Advisor will develop risk management strategies to mitigate security risks to Trans Mountain personnel and assets.

This position is a contract role based in our Sumas Office.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Initiate and conduct security risk assessments related to Trans Mountain personnel and assets. Prepare mitigations to security risks and execute those mitigations as required;
  • Review and update all Trans Mountain site security plans as prescribed by the Corporate Security Standard;
  • Investigate security incidents, report findings to Management and Regulatory authorities where required. Provide recommendations to Management;
  • Respond to security or emergency incidents as required. Lead the security unit as part of the incident command process;
  • Plan and execute security exercises and awareness training;
  • Oversee the deployment of Security Contractors;
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, develop relationships that support risk management strategies, security incident response and exercises;
  • Identify applicable legislative and regulatory requirements as they relate to Trans Mountains Security Management Program;
  • Develop and maintain Security Program documentation to meet regulatory and Trans Mountain ISLMS requirements. Participate in ISLMS development committees and in internal security audits;
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans to address audit findings;
  • Develop relationships with the Regional Director, field supervisors and operational employees and regularly communicate with these individuals as to the current status of security issues;
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with local police and government agencies.

Qualification and Professional Experience

  • University degree in a related security field (Security, Criminology, Business and / or Political Science);
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in corporate security preferably in the energy industry or other complex industrial environment such as manufacturing, mining, etc.;
  • Excellent working knowledge of regulatory requirements in the pipeline industry;
  • Experience working in an operating environment with a strong commitment to safety;
  • Leadership experience preferred;
  • Strong communication and ability to work collaboratively with others;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills;
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft programs specifically Excel.

Other requirements and Information

  • ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification, or eligible to obtain within first year of employment;
  • Travel to work sites is required (25 %);
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean drivers abstract is required;
  • Good working knowledge of technology requirement for physical Security : CCTV, IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems)and access control systems;
  • Have a valid passport and clearance to travel to the United States of America.
