Responsibilities
PRIMARY PURPOSE

Provides senior engineering expertise for railway projects, ensuring system assurance, regulatory compliance, and safety management across operations, maintenance, and management of the railway system.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Interoperability and Safety Compliance: Support BCRTC in meeting safety and interoperability standards, managing safety for product introductions and projects.
  2. Safety Process Management: Develop and oversee safety instructions and assessment processes, ensuring compliance.
  3. Safety Assurance Leadership: Act as Safety Assurance Manager for projects, providing support for complex initiatives.
  4. Safety Management Lifecycle: Implement safety lifecycle processes, develop safety plans, and ensure standards compliance.
  5. Safety Methodologies: Apply safety assurance techniques, conduct hazard analyses, and review safety activities.
  6. Safety Reviews and Oversight: Organize safety reviews, manage hazard logs, and present safety cases.
  7. Planning and Prioritization: Schedule and prioritize safety activities to meet project deadlines.
  8. Safety Assurance Advice: Provide guidance to project teams, participate in meetings and reviews.
  9. Liaison and Collaboration: Coordinate with stakeholders on safety issues and procurement inputs.
  10. Mentorship and Development: Lead safety assurance activities and mentor team members.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: University degree in Engineering or related field, PE designation or eligibility, and 6+ years of senior project engineering experience, preferably in transit and rail infrastructure, Asset Management, and Project Management.

Other Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of systems engineering principles and standards.
  • Understanding of rail industry regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of railway operations, configuration control, and requirements management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective time management and stakeholder relationship skills.
Additional Information

Recruitment involves demonstrating qualifications through interviews. Focus on capital projects. Work schedule is 37.5 hours/week, primarily on-site.
