Job summary

Shared Hospital Laboratory (SHL) is seeking a Senior Registered Technologist to lead microbiology operations and support the Manager in daily lab activities. The role requires expertise in bacteriology, molecular methods, and laboratory information systems to guide staff and ensure high-quality results.

You will assist in staffing, training, quality management, SOP development, and the implementation of policies.

Qualifications

• Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
• Minimum 5 years of microbiology experience as an MLT
• Advanced training in Quality Management Systems is an asset
• Experience in writing standard operating procedures, policies and processes
• In-depth knowledge of total lab automation and microbiology identification and susceptibilities methods
• Able to support validation or evaluation studies under the direction of the Microbiologist
• Ensures Quality assurance procedures are adhered to, addresses and responds to deficiencies promptly
• Demonstrates ability to learn new methodologies
• Provide technical and theoretical support and guidance in microbiology to SHL staff
• Demonstrated expertise in problem solving
• Supports and coordinates education/training of MLT/MLA/medical microbiology trainees
• Advanced knowledge of laboratory computer systems (EPIC preferred)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively within a team
• Adheres to hospital Code of Conduct and Health & Safety policy
• Engages in ethical conduct and diversity awareness

Responsibilities

• Assist the Operations Manager with leadership of the SHL
• Provide technical and functional guidance in microbiology to staff
• Help implement approved policies and procedures and support daily operations
• Collaborate on staffing, quality management, training and education
