Job summary

Shared Hospital Laboratory (SHL) is seeking a Senior Registered Technologist to lead microbiology operations under the Operations Manager. The role requires advanced knowledge of bacteriology, molecular methods, and Laboratory Information Systems, including EPIC, to guide staff and ensure efficient daily performance.

You will help implement approved policies, coordinate staffing, training, and quality management, and support validation studies.

Qualifications

• Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO required).
• Minimum 5 years of microbiology experience as an MLT.
• Advanced training in Quality Management Systems is an asset.
• Experience in writing standard operating procedures, policies and processes preferred.
• In depth knowledge of total lab automation and advanced knowledge of microbiology identification and susceptibilities methods.

Responsibilities

• The Senior Registered Technologist leads SHL staff and provides technical guidance in microbiology.
• Assists the Operations Manager with staffing, daily operations, and quality management; supports training and education.
• Ensures quality assurance procedures are adhered to and addresses deficiencies promptly.
• Supports validation or evaluation studies under the direction of the Microbiologist.

Job Description

Position Overview

The Senior Registered Technologist is responsible for assisting the Operations Manager with providing efficient and effective leadership of the Shared Hospital Laboratory. This position requires advance knowledge of Bacteriology and Molecular theories, methodologies, equipment, Laboratory Information Systems, for providing technical and functional guidance to the staff. The Senior Technologist will assist the manager in implementing approved policies and procedures and to foster a team-oriented approach. The Senior Technologist will work together with the Manager regarding staffing, technical and daily operational issues including quality management, training and education

Requirements

• Must be capable of providing technical and theoretical support and guidance at an advanced level in microbiology to SHL staff
• Demonstrated expertise at problem solving.
• Supports and coordinates the education and training of MLT, MLA and Medical/clinical microbiology trainees.
• Advanced knowledge of laboratory computer systems (EPIC preferred)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skill.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
