Job summary

Nir Yu is seeking a Recovery Superintendent to oversee the recovery process at our kraftmill, including recovery boiler, evaporation and stripping systems, tall oil, and turpentine recovery. The role focuses on health and safety, efficiency and cost targets, and continuous improvement.

You will lead a unionized team, require strong decision making and negotiation, and expect to have an engineering degree or 2nd class power engineer certificate.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1st or 2nd Class Power Engineer certificate or a chemical/mechanical engineering degree with high pressure boiler experience.
• Excellent communicator who can listen to employees and integrate feedback into operations and pursue continuous improvement.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience managing unionized employees is required.
• Strong organizational skills including planning, prioritizing and delegating.
• Proficient with MS Office and standard computer tools.

Responsibilities

• Ensure facility operates in compliance with health, safety and environmental laws and hold employees accountable for safety and environmental systems.
• Lead the Department to achieve targets for health and safety, operations priorities, production rates and costs.
• Develop and coordinate training programs to maintain and improve quality, efficiency and capital upgrades.
• Participate in monthly operation/budget reviews and maintain open dialogue with the union to drive continuous improvement.
• Build positive relationships between Utilities and Maintenance Departments.
• Collaborate with process engineers and the Utilities Management Team.
