Job summary

RBC in Halifax, Canada, seeks a QA Test Engineer to advance quality assurance initiatives across the software lifecycle. You will develop test strategies, perform backend Oracle SQL testing, and apply automation to improve coverage.

This hands-on role requires collaboration with project teams and a proactive approach to identify risks and quality gaps. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in QA, strong Oracle and SQL skills, Unix experience, and knowledge of Big Data, Hive/HQL, and Scala.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in a technical field.
• 3+ years in a QA role.
• Hands-on with Oracle Database and SQL query development.
• Hands-on with UNIX.
• Experience with scheduling tools (Stone Branch or similar).
• Hands-on with Python.
• Big Data skills including Hive and HiveQL; Scala experience.
• Experience testing microservices; familiarity with Postman.
• Experience developing and executing functional and non-functional tests.
• Knowledge of test tools/frameworks (e.g., qTest, HP ALM, JIRA, Confluence).
• Experience with test case design, execution, and defect management.
• Knowledge of web services and API testing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test strategies and plans across all testing levels.
• Support testing tasks from planning to reporting using the organization's framework.
• Perform backend database testing with Oracle SQL.
• Execute functional and non-functional testing across the lifecycle.
• Leverage automation frameworks to maximise coverage and efficiency.
• Design, develop, and execute test cases aligned with requirements.
• Manage defects through lifecycle using defined processes.
• Collaborate with project teams on test strategy implementation.
• Support test data and environment management and CI/CD initiatives.
• Contribute to process improvements and quality engineering best practices.
