Job summary

Kumaran Systems is hiring a senior backend engineer in Toronto to design, develop, and operate backend services in Python. You will build REST APIs, manage Linux-based deployments, and drive automation with scripting and CI/CD practices.

Ideal candidates have extensive Python experience, Oracle DB know-how, and a track record of end-to-end service ownership in modern cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of production Python development.

• Strong Linux system administration and security awareness.
• Experience with REST API frameworks (FastAPI/Flask/Django).
• Oracle database experience with PL/SQL and SQLAlchemy.
• Experience owning services end-to-end from code to production.
• Familiar with CI/CD, Docker, and Git workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services in Python 3.x.
• Build and consume RESTful APIs with FastAPI/Flask/Django.
• Operate Linux servers (RHEL/Ubuntu/CentOS) and manage permissions.
• Write Bash scripts for deployment, scheduling, and housekeeping.
• Package, deploy, and monitor services using systemd and journald.
• Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD, container builds, and hardening.
