McTavish Resource & Management Consultants Ltd, based in the lower mainland of British Columbia, provides professional services in the areas of agriculture, environment, resource management, forestry, and business. We are currently on the search for a new Senior Project Lead to join our growing environment team.
The Senior Project Lead will support and lead various field and office components of medium - and large-scale environmental projects in the forestry, utility, oil and gas, government, and private sectors. Environmental projects will involve natural resource management, with a focus on fish and fish habitat, wildlife and wildlife habitat and species at risk. The Senior Project Lead will also periodically provide support and lead projects related to construction environmental monitoring, water quality management, and erosion and sediment control, as well as provide independent review of technical documents to support project planning and regulatory requirements. The Senior Project Lead will work collaboratively with other leads and will support the management of junior and intermediate professionals in overall project delivery.
Key Job Functions & Responsibilities
Key duties include but are not limited to the following :
- Act as a key project resource and client contact for environmental management projects.
Provides support on project and task management to maintain effective budget tracking and control, deliverable accountability, and client relationship / satisfaction.
- Project resource coordination support of multiple projects.
- Independently prepare, coordinate and / or review technical reports and permit applications associated with regulatory approvals and / or compliance requirements.
- Support the preparation of proposals and cost estimates and support procurement initiatives as directed.
- Support budget tracking / management as directed.
- Ensure project deliverables meet technical requirements as defined by applicable law and client expectations.
- Independently coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
- Assist with and lead the design, planning and execution of ecological studies focused on fisheries and aquatic resources, but also including water quality, wildlife, vegetation, and other environmental information.
- Lead multidisciplinary team in the independent collection, input, organization and analyses of data, and undertaking of design and planning of field activities, including baseline assessment and field layout programs, salvage programs, and various surveys in different fields (i.e., vegetation, fish and fish habitat, wildlife and wildlife habitat, species at risk, watercourses and wetlands, and ecological communities).
- Work with Service Area team resources responsible for conducting environmental baseline surveys and impact assessment studies in conformance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Lead / manage projects, including setting and managing client expectations, communication to the project team, cost tracking, invoice review, and milestone tracking.
- Anticipate and communicate when a task cannot be completed on time or on budget and develop solutions to such issues with involvement from the management team.

- Assigned tasks and deliverables are completed to the satisfaction of the Manager and / or Director, client, and other relevant entities.
- Effective relationships are maintained internally and externally.
- Development of new clients and / or projects with existing clients.
Job Requirements
Requirements for the role of Project Lead and Project Biologist are provided below :
- Science degree or diploma from a recognized university or
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a small to medium professional service with emphasis on environmental consulting.
- Demonstrated experience in executing field based environmental consulting
- Demonstrated experience in obtaining regulatory approvals as they relate to projects in the environmental industry.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing and delivering technical
- Demonstrated experience in leading projects within the environmental consulting
- Registered with the BC College of Applied Biology or another recognized credential program ( e., ASPB, Eco Canada, ABCFP).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Proficient in GIS (ArcPro and / or QGIS)
