Job summary

Acero Engineering Inc. seeks a Senior Project Engineer – Compression in Calgary, Alberta, to lead complex compression-focused EPCM projects and engineering scopes.

The role requires 8–12+ years of experience and strong technical capabilities in process facilities engineering and project execution. You will develop schedules and budgets, manage vendor RFQs, coordinate client and regulatory interfaces, review scope documents, and ensure design compliance with codes and piping/equipment specs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience as a Project Engineer with strong technical capabilities.
  • Strong compression experience is a must have.
  • 6+ years’ experience at an EPCM on Oil and Gas facilities projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Process Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with ENCH 607 & 609, and registered as a professional engineer in Alberta.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Project, Visio, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining project schedules, engineering man-hour estimates, and cost estimates
  • Requesting vendor information, compiling RFQs, evaluating quotes, and recommending purchase awards
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of scope documents, reports, DBMs, PEPs, etc.
  • Assembling and directing construction work packages with appropriate binder contents
  • Understanding regulatory codes and their impact on design
  • Understanding piping and equipment specifications
  • Participate in HAZOPS
  • Understanding and participating in squad checks
  • Communicating with team members and stakeholders
  • Prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines
  • Other tasks/responsibilities, as required

Job description

Acero Engineering Inc. (“Acero”), a growing oil & gas facilities engineering company providing engineering, procurement and construction management expertise is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to fill one role as a Senior Project Engineer – Compression; 8 – 12+ years’ experience.

Acero is focused on facility and pipeline engineering, procurement and construction management services; from concept evaluation to plant start-up. Our core service offering is in-house project management, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering, project engineering, procurement, regulatory services, civil and structural engineering, and construction management.

Responsibilities
  • Creating and maintaining project schedules, engineering man-hour estimates, and cost estimates
  • Requesting vendor information, compiling and distributing RFQs, evaluating quotes, and recommending purchase awards
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of scope documents, reports, DBMs, PEPs, project kickoff documentation, RFQs, etc.
  • Assembling and/or directing the assembly of construction work packages with an awareness and attention to what should be contained in the binder
  • Understanding regulatory codes and the implication on Acero’s design (e.g. spacing)
  • Understanding and working with piping and various equipment specifications
  • Participate in HAZOPS, including dealing with preparation and close-outs
  • Understanding and participating in squad checks
  • Communicating effectively with team members and stakeholders (including clients, vendors, regulatory bodies, etc.) – e.g. notifying the appropriate stakeholders of all changes
  • Prioritizing workload and being able to juggle multiple tasks without falling short on quality or deadlines
  • Other tasks/responsibilities, as required
Preferred Education, Experience And Skills
  • Must have a minimum of 8 years’ experience as a Project Engineer with strong technical capabilities
  • Strong compression experience is a “must have”
  • Must have 6+ years’ experience at an EPCM working on projects related to Oil and Gas Facilities
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Process Engineering or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with successful completion of ENCH 607 & 609 (or equivalent courses), and registered as a professional engineer in the province of Alberta
  • Understanding and working effectively with MS Word, Excel, Project, Visio, Powerpoint, Teams
  • Excellent team collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines as occasionally demanded by our clients
