Job summary

Acero Engineering Inc. in Western Canada seeks a seasoned Controls Engineer/Technician to lead control documentation, P&IDs and control philosophies for Oil and Gas facilities.

You will coordinate with clients and subcontractors, update drawings and respond to RFIs/FDNs, ensuring alignment with project scope. The role requires a minimum of 6 years' experience in oil and gas controls, strong teamwork, and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight timelines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years as a Controls Engineer/Technician in Oil and Gas Facilities in Western Canada.
  • Field experience is an asset.
  • Strong ability to navigate P&IDs, especially process control systems.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Bluebeam.
  • Excellent team collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines as occasionally demanded by clients.

Responsibilities

  • Redline and generate design delivery documents (instrument alarm lists, cause & effect diagrams, I/O assignments, controls docs).
  • Prepare Control Narratives and Control Philosophies.
  • Update cause & effect diagrams and alarm lists for new control scope.
  • Update P&IDs to reflect control logic changes.
  • Revise drawings to reflect construction changes and controls docs.
  • Review RFIs and FDNs for controls scope.
  • Coordinate and manage controls subcontractors (PLC, SCADA, HMI).
  • Communicate with Client and 3rd party Controls personnel.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job description

Acero Engineering Inc. (“Acero”), a dynamic company providing engineering, procurement and construction management expertise to the Oil and Gas industry is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to fill a role as a Controls Engineer/Technician.

Acero is focused on facility and pipeline engineering, procurement and construction management services; from concept evaluation to plant start-up. Our core service offering is in-house project management, process, civil/structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering, project engineering, procurement, regulatory services and construction management.

Responsibilities:
  • Redline and/or generate all design delivery documents such as instrument alarm & setting lists, cause & effect diagrams, I/O assignments, and other controls documentation.
  • Prepare Control Narrative & Control Philosophies.
  • Update cause & effect diagram, alarm & setting lists to reflect additional control scope.
  • Redline and update P&IDs to incorporate control logic changes.
  • Redline engineering drawings to incorporate construction changes, including P&IDs, Control Narratives, cause & effect diagrams, shutdown keys, and other controls-related documents.
  • Review and approve Requests for Information (RFIs) and process Field Design Notices (FDNs).
  • Generate and process Management of Changes (MOC) per construction requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage controls-related subcontractors, including PLC programming, SCADA, and HMI development, as required.
  • Communicate with Client and 3rd party Controls personnel.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as required.
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum of 6 years as a Controls Engineer/Technician in Oil and Gas Facilities in Western Canada.
  • Field experience is an asset.
  • Strong ability to navigate P&IDs, especially process control systems, is required.
  • Proficient working knowledge of CEC, standards, specs, and Regulations would be an advantage.
  • Understanding and working effectively with Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Bluebeam.
  • Excellent team collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines as occasionally demanded by our clients.
