About the Role
Our client is seeking a Project Engineer with approximately 4–8 years of oil and gas experience to support the planning and execution of small to medium-size pipeline and facility projects.
The Project Engineer will support projects from initial definition and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, start‑up, and closeout. The role is particularly well suited to an engineer looking to broaden their experience across engineering design, operations, and field execution while gaining direct owner/operator experience.
The successful candidate will work with increasing independence and will be expected to use sound technical judgment while maintaining close communication with senior engineering, project leadership, operations, and field personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Project Engineer on assigned small to medium-sized pipeline and facility projects from concept through completion.
- Support the development of project scopes, feasibility studies, design basis documents, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans.
- Work directly with operations, field personnel, and internal stakeholders to define project requirements and develop practical, fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and design activities completed internally and by third‑party engineering consultants.
- Review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, datasheets, and technical deliverables for completeness, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
- Support pipeline and facility design activities including tie‑ins, piping systems, equipment, valves, pressure systems, utilities, and related infrastructure.
- Prepare and coordinate design information required by engineering disciplines, equipment vendors, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Maintain project engineering control documents, action lists, technical queries, deliverable registers, and related project documentation.
- Support equipment and material specifications, procurement packages, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
- Review engineering drawings and deliverables and coordinate comments between consultants, operations, field stakeholders, and other project participants.
- Support engineering quality control and ensure deliverables meet company, regulatory, technical, and project requirements.
- Provide project reporting related to engineering progress, schedules, costs, risks, issues, and action items.
- Maintain a strong interface with operations and field teams, including site visits and field support during design, construction, commissioning, and start‑up.
- Coordinate third‑party services, vendors, inspectors, contractors, and engineering consultants as required.
- Support project delivery objectives related to cost, schedule, safety, operability, constructability, and quality.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs and risk reviews, constructability reviews, pre‑start‑up activities, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Assist with planning and prioritization of project activities across engineering, operations, construction, procurement, and external service providers.

Core Competencies
- 4–8 years of progressive engineering and/or project experience within the oil and gas industry.
- Experience with pipeline and/or oil and gas facility projects.
- Experience supporting small to medium-sized capital projects through multiple phases of execution.
- Exposure to engineering design, operations, field construction support, or a combination of these areas.
- Ability to work effectively with operations personnel, field teams, engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Understanding of how engineering decisions affect constructability, operability, reliability, cost, and long‑term asset performance.
- Working knowledge of applicable oil and gas engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, and Alberta regulatory requirements is considered an asset.
- Exposure to cost estimating, procurement, equipment and material selection, technical bid evaluations, and vendor coordination is considered an asset.
- Hands‑on site, construction, commissioning, or start‑up experience is considered an asset.
- Strong planning, prioritization, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple project activities and follow through on commitments.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Approximately 4–8 years of relevant oil and gas engineering and/or project experience.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or eligibility to obtain registration, is preferred.
- Candidates actively progressing toward professional registration will also be considered.
- Pipeline and/or facility project experience is required.
- Producer or owner‑side experience is an asset but is not required.
