Position Summary :

The selected candidate will work within an engineering and design team on utility projects of varying size and complexity, focusing on high voltage distribution lines (both overhead and underground) and substations for utilities and commercial/industrial operations.

Responsibilities :
  • Create detailed electrical and civil designs for overhead and underground systems for local utility construction projects, following applicable standards.
  • Review engineering designs and technical drawings.
  • Prepare budgetary and detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Perform voltage drop calculations, cable pulling calculations, transformer and feeder loading checks, and other analyses as required.
  • Review construction in the field to ensure compliance with designs.
  • Review unit pricing projects to maximize project revenue.
  • Collaborate with third parties to design make-ready work and facilitate the transfer of joint-use attachments.
  • Work with Legal to obtain easements and access agreements.
  • Verify existing site and electrical plant conditions in the field.
  • Prepare cost estimates, bills of materials, and work orders.
  • Develop and review cost estimation templates and maintain the cost database.
  • Coordinate work with stakeholders (customers, utilities, property managers, internal groups).
  • Respond to escalated customer complaints to ensure concerns are addressed.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all job functions safely, complying with health, safety, environmental policies, and regulations.
  • Follow the company's quality system operating procedures.
  • Supervise 2-3 designers on utility projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications :
  • Certified Technologist or EIT registered, working towards PEng.
  • 3+ years of utility design experience.
  • Experience with Toronto Hydro distribution design is an asset.
  • Field experience is an asset.
  • Experience designing overhead and underground distribution systems, substations, pole line design, and preparing design packages.
  • Proficient in MicroStation; knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret electrical documents and technical reports.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards, legislation, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of SAP and GEAR is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and adapt to flexible schedules.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.
