Job summary

Jobtailor in Oakville, Ontario, is seeking an experienced software engineer to advance actuarial applications built with R Shiny. You will design rich UIs with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS and create reusable UI components.

You will collaborate with actuaries to translate business needs into practical software solutions and help shape the technical direction of a growing suite of applications.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Education or equivalent experience in a quantitative discipline such as actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field.
• Strong JavaScript, HTML, and CSS skills.
• Experience structuring UI codebases for maintainability.
• Ability to independently design and implement user interfaces.
• Experience with R or other analytical programming languages such as Python or SAS.
• R experience strongly preferred and willingness to learn R.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals, including version control, testing, code review, and effort estimation.
• Ability to quickly learn new languages, frameworks, and technologies.
• Experience customizing R Shiny components using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience using agentic development tools to improve, refactor, or generate code.
