Job summary

Aviva Canada is seeking a Senior Pricing Developer to join the TIMR team, modernizing actuarial tools with R Shiny and JavaScript-based UIs. You’ll design intuitive interfaces, refactor R code, and collaborate with actuaries to translate business needs into robust software solutions.

You should have 5+ years in software engineering, strong JS/HTML/CSS, and experience with R or similar analytics languages. Hybrid work model and career development opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Education or equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, data science, or related field.
• Strong JavaScript, HTML, and CSS skills.
• Experience structuring UI codebases for maintainability.
• Ability to independently design and implement user interfaces.
• Experience with R or other analytical programming languages (e.g., Python, SAS) with R preferred.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals (version control, testing, code review, estimation, and learning new languages).

Responsibilities

• Develop new features for actuarial applications built with R Shiny.
• Design and enhance user interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Develop shared JavaScript components to improve maintainability and accelerate development.
• Refactor R code to leverage reusable JavaScript components.
• Collaborate with actuaries to translate business needs into practical solutions.
• Build and maintain automated UI test suites.
• Adhere to software engineering best practices including reviews, testing, and documentation.
• Help shape the technical direction of a growing suite of actuarial applications.
