Job summary

Aecon Construction Solutions Inc. is seeking a Piping Superintendent to lead piping and mechanical scopes on complex industrial projects across Western Canada. The role reports to the Construction Manager and focuses on safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of industrial construction experience with piping and mechanical systems.
• Supervisory or superintendent-level experience overseeing pipefitting/steamfitting scopes.
• Strong knowledge of piping systems, installation methods, welding processes, and pressure systems.
• Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
• Journeyperson Pipefitter/Steamfitter certification or equivalent experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of quality control, inspection processes, and testing requirements (hydrotesting).
• Leadership in managing craft labour in a fast-paced environment.
• Solid understanding of industrial safety protocols including confined space, fall protection, hazard management.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills for multiple fronts.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Participate in bid reviews to validate constructability and labour productivity.
• Lead field execution of piping scopes including installation, assembly, testing, and commissioning.
• Review isometrics, P&IDs, and specs to ensure accurate installation.
• Oversee pipefitting, steamfitting, and welding activities to meet quality standards.
• Ensure installation methods for flow, pressure, and temperature requirements.
• Monitor hydrotesting, leak testing, and QC checks of piping systems.
• Work with EHS to enforce safety programs and Aecon's safety culture.
• Develop and manage construction look-ahead schedules aligning labour, materials and equipment.
• Coordinate subcontractors, union trades, and internal stakeholders.
• Mentor forepersons, journeypersons, and apprentices; foster inclusive culture.
• Identify project risks and implement mitigation with project teams.
• Act as construction lead for piping scopes with PM, QA, Eng, and Project Controls.
