About the role:
The Senior Performance Analyst role is responsible for investment performance measurement, monitoring and reporting activities for AGF Investments. The Performance Analyst will ensure that performance returns, benchmark returns, and performance attribution are calculated correctly by ensuring that analytical reviews, reasonability checks and established processes are completed and followed in accordance with AGF’s Investments Policies, Guidelines, and Procedures.
Your Responsibilities:
- Review, validate and reconcile the performance measurement data in an efficient and timely manner to identify and resolve any issues that may arise or escalate as required.
- Ensure that analytical reviews, reasonability checks and established processes outlined in AGF Investments Procedures are completed and followed.
- Prepare performance and attribution reports for investment groups in conjunction with the Reporting team, conduct thorough analysis on performance results, explain performance results, investigate discrepancies through to issue resolution.
- Assist the Data Management team in developing tests and automating control checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of information being used to calculate performance benchmark and attribution results.
- Automate and streamline existing processes within the Performance team, as well as proposing ongoing process improvements.
- Participate in UAT testing for system upgrades or enhancements.
- Define, create, and maintain benchmarks and composites that are used for performance measurement and other metrics in accordance with established procedures and GIPS compliance.
- Investigate and respond to inquiries from business partners on performance reports.
- Participate in the annual GIPS verification process by compiling supporting documentation, preparing, and validating data in the GIPS reports.
- Ensure that requirements across the organization are thoroughly met in developing enhanced performance measurement and performance attribution capabilities.
- Develop and foster effective working relationships with other departments across AGF.
- Ensure that new requirements (for enhanced performance measurement and performance attribution) are communicated effectively to vendors or consultants.
- Participate on performance related projects; other duties as required.
Your Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree - Commerce, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance or Business Administration.
- Working towards or completion of a Professional designation - CFA, CIPM.
- A minimum of 2-5 years of relevant work experience in performance measurement and performance attribution in a technical environment; and a strong understanding of performance measurement and attribution methodologies (i.e. time weighted vs. dollar weighted returns, arithmetic vs. geometric attribution, multi-currency & fixed-income attribution).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles relevant to investment accounting and Net Asset Value valuation. Ability to interact with the accounting and valuations team and appreciate the implications on performance measurement.
- Bloomberg Terminal user experience is a must.
- Advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word, and proficiency with SQL is an asset.
- Understanding of databases and the ability to discuss database concepts with the Reporting and Operations teams, as related to performance reporting and maintenance thereof.
- Experience with Eagle Investment Accounting system is an asset.
- Knowledge of GIPS is an asset.
