EQ Bank in Toronto is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to lead end-to-end payroll across multiple Canadian entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong controls. You will drive process improvements and partner with Finance, HR, Benefits and external vendors to support reliable remittance and reporting.

The role blends hands-on payroll processing with governance, audits, and analytics, with Dayforce expertise and an emphasis on risk prevention.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 to 10 years of progressive payroll experience in a multi-entity Canadian payroll environment.
• Accredited payroll compliance professional certification.
• Experience processing payroll for multiple legal entities and large employee populations (1500-3000).
• Experience supporting payroll accounting, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Experience with internal/external audits, control testing, and audit evidence preparation.
• Dayforce payroll experience preferred; payroll integrations and transformation projects asset.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting capabilities.
• Knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, remittances, and year-end reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end payroll for multiple Canadian entities and populations.
• Manage bi-weekly and off-cycle payrolls in alignment with calendars and regulations.
• Validate payroll transactions including hires, terminations, leaves, changes, and complex events.
• Ensure accurate upstream data and perform risk-based reviews of payroll outputs.
• Own payroll calculations, tax treatment, and accounting impact.
• Coordinate with Finance, HR, Benefits, and vendors for governance and compliance.
