Job summary

Portfolio Credit Control is seeking a Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations for 1,000+ employees in Canada. You will supervise staff, ensure timely and accurate payments, and drive ongoing payroll process improvements.

The role requires strong leadership, knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations, and the ability to implement system enhancements. Bilingual French/English is an asset and collaboration with benefits and regulatory teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
• 10–15 years payroll experience with at least 5 years in supervisory role.
• Canada payroll experience required; U.S. payroll exposure is an asset.
• Experience with payroll system implementations/upgrades is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency.
• Develop, maintain, and support payroll policies, procedures, and remuneration plans.
• Ensure payroll compliance with government legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee payroll accounting processes with strong internal controls.
• Investigate and resolve payroll inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead annual payroll activities, including year-end balancing and filings.
• Hire, coach, mentor, and evaluate payroll staff.
• Manage workers’ compensation files, claims, and related financial administration.
• Oversee executive benefits administration (insurance, HSA, retirement plans).
• Support payroll system improvements and upgrades as required.
