Job summary

MBMIntellectual Property Law in Canada is seeking a Senior Patent Agent to join our collaborative, growing team and help clients protect innovations in Canada and around the world. You will draft patent applications, respond to Office Actions, manage deadlines, mentor junior agents, and collaborate with inventors to identify points of novelty. A CPATA license and 8+ years of experience are required; bilingual French/English is a plus.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in Canada and foreign jurisdictions.
• Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and/or Physics.
• A Class 1 CPATA license as a Registered Canadian Patent Agent (USPTO Bar is a plus).
• Understanding of AI, cloud computing and telecommunications technologies.
• Ability to meet and manage deadlines.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and devise creative solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, especially in writing.
• Bilingual French and English would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Meet with inventors to identify points of novelty.
• Draft foreign and domestic patent applications.
• Respond to foreign and domestic Office Actions.
• Monitor deadlines/activities related to client IP portfolios.
• Foster and maintain positive client and colleague relationships.
• Mentor, train, and support the development of junior patent agents.
• Support team priorities and client needs.
