Job summary

Lumentum Canada in Ottawa is seeking a Senior Optical Characterization and Test Engineer to join our Design Verification and Characterization Team on-site. You will design advanced optical test strategies and help move breakthrough products from concept to production.

The ideal candidate has a graduate degree in EE or related field, 3+ years of optical component experience, and hands-on test automation with Python, C#, or similar.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in optical components, photonics, or telecom systems.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; proficient in software development.
• Hands-on experience with optical test and measurement equipment and test automation.
• Experience with Python, Flutter, Dart, VB.NET, or C# is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement advanced optical test and verification strategies.

What You'll Be Doing

As a key contributor to our Design Verification & Characterization Team , you'll play an essential role in bringing revolutionary optical products to life. Specifically, you'll:

• Engineer with impact: Design and implement advanced optical test and verification strategies to transition breakthrough products from the design phase to full-scale production.
• Characterize cutting-edge optics: Conduct in-depth characterization of key optical parameters, using advanced techniques to ensure our products are optimized for real-world performance.
• Dive into advanced analysis: Utilize sophisticated data analysis methods to extract insights, solve challenges, and improve optical designs.
• Innovate with AI: Collaborate on integrating AI tools into test and characterization workflows to unlock new levels of efficiency and accuracy.
• Collaborate for success: Work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to align product requirements.
• Deliver excellence: Create scalable, well-documented test solutions and validate products using Agile methodologies.
• Learn from the best: Gain hands‑on experience and mentorship from seasoned experts in optical testing, characterization, and advanced data analysis, setting the foundation for a successful career.

What We’re Looking For

Education:

• A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.

Experience:

• 3+ years of relevant experience on product development of optical components, photonics, or telecom systems

Required Skills:

• Strong analytical, communication skills, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Software Development

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in the design and/or testing of optical components and subsystems for optical communications.
• Hands‑on experience with electrical and optical test and measurement equipment
• Expertise in test automation, including interaction with devices under test and test equipment.
• Experience in any one (or more) of the following: Python, Flutter, Dart, VB.NET, C#
• Experience leveraging packages and frameworks in a software development context
• Familiarity with Agile software development tools, version control systems (e.g., Git)

Salary Range: $93,400 - $133,400 CAD (flexible).

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. In line with our commitment to being a great place to work, Lumentum offers competitive total rewards which may include annual bonus, equity, and comprehensive health and welfare benefits.
