Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Metallurgical Technician to support processing plant operations in Kimberley. This hands-on role involves conducting laboratory tests, monitoring performance, and troubleshooting metallurgical processes alongside metallurgists and operators.

The successful candidate will apply practical metallurgical testing knowledge, maintain equipment calibration, and ensure accurate data reporting to drive recovery and product quality.

Qualifications

  • National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Metallurgical Technician in mining/processing environment.
  • Experience with diamond or base metal recovery and lab techniques.
  • Experience with analytical instruments and data logging.
  • Familiar with safety and quality-control procedures in lab near Kimberley operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform metallurgical tests on ore samples (comminution, flotation, leaching).
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment with calibration and accuracy.
  • Monitor plant parameters and on-site analysis to identify deviations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting process issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Record, analyze and report test results to the metallurgical team.

About the Role

Our client requires a highly skilled and diligent Senior Metallurgical Technician to support their processing plant operations in the Kimberley region. This hands‑on role is crucial for conducting laboratory tests, monitoring plant performance, and troubleshooting metallurgical processes. You will work closely with metallurgists and plant operators to ensure optimal recovery and quality of mineral products. The ideal candidate has a strong practical understanding of metallurgical testing procedures and is committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency in a fast‑paced operational environment within the Northern Cape's diamond and base metal sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of metallurgical tests on ore samples, including comminution, flotation, and leaching.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration and accuracy.
