Job summary

LAPORTE seeks a Mechanical Engineer (Building Systems) in Vancouver, BC, with 5+ years of design experience to contribute to systems design for HVAC, steam, and related utilities. The role includes guiding junior engineers, collaborating on pharmaceutical, biotechnology and food sector projects, and ensuring quality deliverables.

The candidate will develop conceptual and detailed designs, prepare plans and specs, and support project budgets while mentoring the Mechanical team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required.
• P.Eng registration with EGBC/APEGA/APEGS preferred.
• 5+ years of design engineering experience in consulting.
• Experience in HVAC design and central utilities (steam, chilled water, compressed air).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.

Responsibilities

• Design and prepare detailed plans and specifications for building mechanical systems in line with energy efficiency standards.
• Prepare studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems.
• Survey existing installations, improve current systems, and develop new solutions.
• Estimate construction budgets for building mechanical systems.
• Participate in site supervision and provide services during construction.
• Manage projects and coordinate with Project Managers on scope, budget, and staffing.
