Job summary

Alchemy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take automotive products from design intent to repeatable production, with responsibility for complex geometry, tooling and process qualification. You will mentor engineers, work with Product, Operations and Manufacturing, and help drive design-for-manufacture excellence.

Salary is up to $125,000 CAD with equity, onsite in Waterloo. The role demands hands-on CAD, tooling design, and process development experience, with a focus on precision fit

Qualifications

• Must have at least a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design and process engineering experience.
• Expert-level 3D CAD with surfacing and reverse engineering of complex freeform geometry (SolidWorks preferred).
• Experience with 3D measurement/scan data: point clouds, mesh processing and alignment.
• Proven ownership of tooling, mold, die or fixture design to production.
• Practical process development experience taking a process to production readiness.
• Strong understanding of materials behavior under heat, load and time.

Responsibilities

• Model complex freeform geometry and reverse-engineer parts from 3D data.
• Define design standards for fit, manufacturability, tolerances and surface treatment.
• Lead design reviews and approve designs for tooling.
• Improve design pipeline with templates and automation.
• Specify, design and source custom tooling and fixtures.
• Own tooling lifecycle from commissioning to replacement.
• Develop and qualify manufacturing processes for polymer/film-based products.
• Establish robust process windows and understand key variable interactions.
• Diagnose defects using experiments and data.
• Release processes with complete work instructions for production transfer.
• Support production troubleshooting and equipment tooling.
• Manage tooling suppliers and drive cost/cycle-time reductions.
• Define test plans including dimensional/optical inspection.
• Own the engineering record and maintain SOPs and libraries.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with Product/Operations.
