Job summary

SkyTrain in Metro Vancouver is seeking a senior rail engineer with a Professional Engineer designation or EGBC eligibility. The role requires eight years of senior-level experience in transit or rail infrastructure and a strong background in project management.

The successful candidate will lead complex engineering tasks, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to safety and reliability across the system.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in a required discipline with PE designation or EGBC eligibility.
• 8 years of senior-level engineering experience, preferably in transit/rolling stock or rail infra.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering principles, standards, and regulatory requirements in rail.
• Experience in railway operation and maintenance practices, configuration control.
• Ability to create technical reports, standards, procedures, specifications, risk assessments, drawings.
• Knowledge of project management principles and reporting.
• Strong time management to coordinate multiple activities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder consensus.

Job description

Qualifications

The competencies of this position would be acquired through completion of University degree in Engineering on a required discipline, including a Professional Engineering Designation or eligibility to be registered with EGBC, plus eight (8) years of senior level engineering experience, preferably within transit and a Rolling Stock or Rail Infrastructure environment.

• Advanced knowledge on the principles, theories, and practices of the designated engineering discipline
• Advanced knowledge on relevant standards, legislation, acts and regulatory requirements pertaining to the rail industry.
• Working knowledge of railway operation and maintenance practices, including configuration control.
• Advanced analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, to resolve critical and high impact technical issues.
• Advanced skill in creating technical reports, standards, procedures, specifications, method statements, risk assessments, FMECA, schematic and or technical drawings.
• Solid knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts and practices of project management and project reporting.
• Solid time management skills to balance and coordinate effort across multiple, concurrent activities.
• Solid communication skills and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to achieve consensus between groups.

Other Information

Knowledge of building systems, fire life and safety, or HVAC plumbing would be considered an asset.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

37.5 hours per week.

Rate of Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $100,080 - $150,120 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
