Senior Manager, Environmental Sustainability

Location

Introduction

We are hiring a Senior Manager, Environmental Sustainability, for our food manufacturing client based in Mississauga, Ontario. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Engineering, the Senior Manager is responsible for implementing, designing, and continuously improving the environmental management program. This role supports the company's plants in maintaining environmental permits to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. The Senior Manager will collaborate with the Senior Vice President to develop sustainability initiatives that promote operational excellence aligned with the company's strategic blueprint.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide guidance and technical support to plant management regarding Environmental & Sustainability programs and procedures.
  2. Develop benchmarks for sustainability initiatives to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  3. Serve as the subject matter expert on compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations.
  4. Identify trends and areas for improvement, communicating findings to leadership and plant management.
  5. Develop and deliver environmental training programs at the plant level.
  6. Lead the development and execution of plant-level sustainability audits.
  7. Collect and analyze data related to the plant's sustainability efforts.
  8. Prepare reports to support sustainability initiatives.
  9. Maintain current knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements at all levels.
  10. Participate in corporate environmental initiatives, including conference calls and audits, ensuring site representation and consistency.
  11. Develop and maintain an environmental calendar to track compliance and initiatives.
Requirements
  • Degree in Environmental or Industrial Engineering.
  • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Environmental Professional (EP), or similar credentials.
  • 8+ years of experience in environmental sustainability roles within manufacturing, preferably in the food industry.
  • Strong knowledge of interprovincial environmental regulations concerning air, odour, noise, water, and waste management.
  • Experience with cost-saving projects and initiatives.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems such as ISO 14001.
  • Excellent collaboration, consensus-building, and analytical skills.
  • Experience managing contractors.
  • Ability to travel 40-50%, locally and across the country.
