Job summary

BCFSA in Vancouver seeks an experienced macroeconomic risk analyst to deliver macroeconomic intelligence to support risk monitoring, regulatory oversight and strategic decision-making across its regulated segments.

You will analyze Canada and British Columbia trends, monitor housing market developments, and prepare briefs and presentations. Strong data analytics and dashboard-building skills (PowerBI) are essential.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of macroeconomics, capital markets, and economics of real estate.
  • Working knowledge of data analytics, financial, and quantitative analysis techniques.
  • Working knowledge of computer programming languages (e.g. Python, R, SQL, PySpark).
  • Ability to build and update dashboards (e.g. PowerBI)
  • Knowledge of credit, liquidity, market, operational, and systemic risks as they apply to financial institutions.
  • Experience in macroeconomic model development is an asset.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and methods.
  • Ability to exercise judgement, initiative, and discretion.
  • Ability to write clear and concise documentation, reports, briefing notes, etc.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Informs and maintains the organization’s view of macroeconomic conditions, ensuring consistency in risk perspectives across the organization.
  • Performs research and monitoring of emerging trends and institutional and system-wide information to identify risks to regulated financial sectors in British Columbia.
  • Evaluates and assesses identified risks and proposes actions to resolve or manage the risks.
  • Tracks and analyzes key macroeconomic developments for Canada and British Columbia.
  • Monitors housing market trends in Canada and British Columbia.
  • Monitors financial market developments that could impact regulated segments.
  • Prepares rationales, presentations, briefing notes and discussion documents to support decisions and recommendations.
  • Leads engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contributes to the team’s development of internal work practices (e.g., policies, procedures, and tools).
  • Provides orientation and training to internal and/or external stakeholders within area of responsibility.
  • Contributes to, participates in, and supports organizational business transformation initiatives.
