  • Working knowledge of data analytics, financial, and quantitative analysis techniques.
  • Working knowledge of computer programming languages (e.g. Python, R, SQL, PySpark).
  • Ability to build and update dashboards (e.g. PowerBI).
  • Knowledge of credit, liquidity, market, operational, and systemic risks as they apply to financial institutions.
  • Experience in macroeconomic model development is an asset.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and methods.
  • Ability to write clear and concise documentation, reports, briefing notes, etc.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.

SUMMARY

This roleis responsible forproviding macroeconomic intelligence to support risk monitoring, regulatoryoversightand strategic decision-making within BCFSA’s regulated segments including financial institutions and real estate sectors.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Informs and maintains the organization’s view of macroeconomic conditions, ensuring consistency in risk perspectives across the organization.
  • Performs research and monitoring of emerging trends and institutional and system-wide information to identify risks to regulated financial sectors in British Columbia.
  • Evaluates and assesses identified risks and proposes actions to resolve or manage the risks.
  • Tracks and analyzes key macroeconomic developments for Canada and British Columbia.
  • Monitors housing market trends in Canada and British Columbia.
  • Monitors financial market developments that could impact regulated segments.
  • Prepares rationales, presentations, briefing notes, decision letters and discussion documents to support decisions and recommendations.
  • Leads engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contributes to the team’s development of internal work practices (e.g., policies, procedures, and tools).
  • Provides orientation and training to internal and/or external stakeholders within area of responsibility.
  • Contributes to, participates in, and supports organizational business transformation initiatives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Advanced knowledge of macroeconomics, capital markets, and economics of real estate.
  • Working knowledge of data analytics, financial, and quantitative analysis techniques.

EDUCATION
  • Degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics/Statistics, Data Sciences and several years of experience in the financial services sector or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Related experience includes:

  • Financial Risk Management
  • Certified Business Economist (CBE), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
