Job description

The Senior Learning and Development (L&D) Specialist, as part of a team, is responsible for coordinating and implementing the functions of the L&D Department to support continuous staff and student development, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and training best practices. The role involves collaborating with the L&D manager and subject matter experts to research, develop, update, and deliver dynamic training courses internally and externally.

The Senior L&D Specialist also manages training registration, facilitates accommodation requests, designs learning plans for staff improvement, guides supervisors in course delivery, and instructs various courses/workshops. Responsibilities include overseeing, maintaining, and updating the Reena Learning Management System, maintaining relationships with training partners, and serving as the first escalation point for L&D team members.

Key Responsibilities :
  1. Training Facilitation and Coordination
    • Train the trainer to enhance facilitation skills and tech use.
    • Instruct assigned courses and act as a reference for L&D programs.
    • Lead course meetings, contribute to planning, present at conferences, host webinars, and provide orientation/support to students.
    • Match needs with support services, ensure IPAC measures, and advise instructors on content.
    • Coordinate event planning, registration, and certification processes, maintain LMS structure, and perform cross-functional activities.
  2. Program Development
    • Contribute to departmental planning, develop and review programs, and maintain L&D presence in meetings.
    • Collaborate with supervisors and teams, research L&D trends, and liaise with external agencies.
    • Work with subject matter experts to create and update training materials, support LMS administration, and develop e-learning content.
    • Investigate cost-saving opportunities, manage invoices and petty cash, and ensure smooth online payment transactions.
  3. Additional Senior Specialist Responsibilities
    • Act as backup to the department manager, lead content creation, collaborate on training needs, and maintain departmental web presence.
Qualifications :
  • University degree in social services, organization development, human resources, or related field.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Adult Education.
  • 3-5 years of L&D experience, especially in training and adult learning.
  • Experience in developmental services sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LMS 365, Articulate 360, and online platforms.
  • Facilitation and blended learning experience, including e-learning tools and web-based learning.
  • Additional certificates (e.g., First Aid & CPR) are assets.
  • Trainer certification and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Strong relationship management and technical support skills.
