Job summary

Qualifications

• College diploma in natural/applied sciences or related discipline
• Minimum 1 year of experience providing support and technical advice in a teaching/research laboratory
• Knowledge of laboratory tools, equipment, instruments, materials, and hazards and their safe usage
• Knowledge of Health and Safety rules, regulations and University policies and procedures related to the operation of labs and lab equipment/materials
• Experience in reading and understanding texts of considerable difficulty requiring conceptual comprehension
• Bilingualism - French and English (spoken and written)

Responsibilities

• Technical Support: meets with clients to identify and analyze needs for lab equipment and materials; assists in design, assembly, installation, testing, maintenance and repair
• Training: trains and demonstrates usage for teaching assistants and students to improve end-user proficiency
• Health and Safety: ensures labs operate in accordance with safety rules and policies
• Technical Advice: provides advice on lab equipment design and fabrication when required
• Purchasing and Inventory: evaluates and recommends new equipment and maintains inventory records
• Documentation: keeps manuals and lab documentation up to date and accessible to users
