Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and resourceful Senior IT Systems Administrator to join our team. This role is critical in managing and optimizing our hybrid infrastructure, enhancing security measures, and ensuring seamless integration between our IT systems and business operations. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise, especially in Azure and AWS cloud environments, and be capable of driving key IT initiatives that align with our company's strategic goals.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a hybrid work model. You will be required to attend meetings and events at our national office in Abbotsford, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hybrid Infrastructure Management:
    • Administer and optimize a hybrid cloud platform, primarily focused on Windows operating systems, with Azure and AWS as the primary cloud environments.
    • Manage and integrate on-premises systems with cloud resources across both Azure and AWS, ensuring seamless operation and connectivity.
  • Microsoft 365 Administration:
    • Manage and optimize Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Planner, and other related applications.
    • Implement and manage security and compliance features within Microsoft 365 to protect data and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Implement and manage advanced security measures, including Cisco Meraki networking, firewalls, and threat protection.
    • Support IT regulatory audits and conduct proactive security scanning to maintain compliance with industry standards and internal policies.
    • Enhance and manage backup processes and disaster recovery planning for critical servers and databases across Azure and AWS environments.
  • System Performance Optimization:
    • Implement and manage server monitoring and alerting processes/applications to maintain optimal performance across Azure and AWS platforms.
    • Optimize Azure SQL / SQL Server performance through tuning and best practices, with consideration of AWS-based databases as applicable.
    • Design and implement load balancing solutions and clustered databases for dynamic scalability, ideally within Azure and AWS environments.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with non-technical business units, including Sales, Service, and Marketing, to ensure IT systems effectively support their operations.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Manage and optimize cloud resources, including virtual servers, network services, and storage technologies across Azure and AWS.
    • Provide tier-3 service desk support as required, addressing complex issues that go beyond the capabilities of the first-line support staff.
  • Resource Management and Adaptability:
    • Work effectively within budget constraints, identifying and implementing cost-effective solutions for IT infrastructure management.
    • Take on multiple roles as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to IT challenges
Experience/Qualifications Requirements

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive experience with Azure and AWS cloud environments, as well as Windows Server and other Microsoft Server applications.
    • Proficient in cloud solutions, particularly with Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
    • Strong experience in Azure SQL / SQL Server performance tuning and best practices, and familiarity with AWS database services.
    • Proficient in PowerShell scripting and familiar with error logging analysis tools.
    • Experience with Intune management and backup technologies such as Veeam.
  • Security and Networking:
    • Strong background in Cisco/Meraki networking, firewalls, and threat protection.
    • Experience in implementing and managing security protocols, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance processes across Azure and AWS environments.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Proven ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to achieve business goals.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Education and Certifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, with 7+ years of relevant work experience.
    • Certifications in systems administration, security, and project management are a definite asset.

Compensation: Base Salary: $80K to $95K depending on skills / experience
