Job summary

BC Hydro is seeking a strategic communications and policy advisor to support early-stage hydroelectric investigation and expansion opportunities in Vancouver. You will work with engineering, Indigenous relations, regulatory, environmental, legal and communications teams to craft clear briefing materials and engage with government and communities.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in communications, public policy, business, planning or political science.
  • IAP2, conflict management or negotiation training is an asset.
  • Experience guiding strategy on complex infrastructure with early-stage development.
  • Background in public policy, community relations, public consultation or government relations.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to translate technical info into clear advice.
  • Excellent writing and editing for briefing notes and public-facing content.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with executives, governments and communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, high-emotion environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning and implementation of business strategy, communications, government relations and public engagement for early-stage hydroelectric opportunities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, Indigenous relations, regulatory, environmental, legal and communications teams.
  • Develop briefing materials, presentations, issue notes and speaking points for executives and stakeholders.
  • Design public engagement and communications tailored to project stage and complexity.
  • Support engagement with local, provincial governments and communities.
  • Monitor public sentiment and identify risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Support socio-economic research, tracking and analysis.
  • Provide strategic advice on how stakeholder input informs investigations and development options.
  • Assist with media relations and regional community relations in coordination with the communications team.
  • Contribute to government relations and policy work as needed.
