Job summary

BC Hydro’s Environment team seeks a regulatory professional to support complex capital projects and operations. You will coordinate permits and collaborate with Indigenous Relations, regulators, and internal teams to ensure compliance and timely reporting.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, four years of regulatory experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency with SharePoint and MS Office.

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills to liaise with regulators and other departments.
  • Proficiency with SharePoint and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to develop effective presentation materials and reports using visuals.
  • Familiarity with MS Teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and track permit applications for Capital Projects and Operations.
  • Support development of permit applications and ensure regulatory requirements.

Job description

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/week)

What you’ll do -

As a member of the Environment team you will provide regulatory support on complex BC Hydro capital projects and across operations.

The scope includes supporting federal and provincial environmental regulatory processes, in close collaboration with the team of Environmental Work Package Managers and other Environment staff as well as with our Indigenous Relations (IR) counterparts.

This position will require you to:

  • Coordinate and track the submission, prioritization and escalation of required permit applications for Capital Projects and Operations.
  • Support the development of permit applications as needed, including reviewing permit applications for completeness, developing templates for permit applications and ensuring permit applications meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure other regulatory document quality assurance (e.g., compliance reports); participate in and help manage the review of regulatory documents; seek peer or expert review for quality, accuracy and adequacy.
  • Coordinate across business groups to ensure all required regulatory reporting, including internal reviews and approvals, is efficiently coordinated and delivered.
  • Coordinate with the Indigenous Relations team to develop and implement consistent consultation reporting in support of permit applications.
  • Develop and maintain document standards; develop and maintain a document system for permitting/ regulatory requirements and associated reports (potentially including a database); monitor and deliver the schedule as it relates to obtaining, managing and reporting on permits and authorizations.
  • Participate in meetings with multi-disciplinary internal and external project team, government agencies, regulators, and Indigenous Nations and ensure tracking and follow up on commitments and action items as needed.
  • Integrate with other disciplines through pro-active communication, team meetings, work planning and information exchange.
  • In collaboration with the Indigenous Relations team, collate, develop, review and deliver materials for consultation, technical analysis and permitting/ compliance documentation.
  • Support other environmental team permitting efforts as required.
  • Develop and deliver material for meetings with regulators
  • Gather and analyze reporting metrics on various key performance indicators for the preparation of regular Dashboard reports for the department.
  • Perform basic administrative duties on behalf of the department, as required, such as document management and note taking.
  • Maintain and update content as needed on SharePoint, Hydroweb and Dedicated Public Websites.
What you bring –
  • Bachelor’s degree in environment, biology, forestry, communications, marketing, business administration or related field
  • A minimum of four years relevant experience in an environmental, properties or related regulatory setting
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills sufficient to liaise with regulators and other departments within BC Hydro
  • Proficiency with SharePoint, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Ability to develop create effective and impactful presentation materials and reports through the use of visual aids and design elements (for example, graphics, charts, infographics, layouts)
  • Familiarity with interactive meeting tools (MS Teams)
  • Ability to effectively manage and meet multiple deadlines
Assets:
  • Knowledge of provincial permitting process
  • Knowledge of BC Hydro business operations and processes
