Job summary

Gordon Food Service in Milton, Canada, seeks an experienced HR professional to lead recruiting, onboarding, employee relations and development initiatives. The role ensures Home Office HR practices are implemented and followed across departments within a family-owned organization.

The successful candidate will drive performance management, compensation and benefits support, and diversity and inclusion efforts while maintaining compliance and delivering a strong employee experience.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in HR or a similar role.
  • University degree in Human Resources or a related field is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, presentation skills and problem solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of GFS culture, policies and employment-related laws, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Ability to develop solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Refers to policies and practices for guidance.
  • Understands affirmative action plans and EEOC compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting and Onboarding: Leads sourcing and recruiting activities; delivers interview skills training to managers; supports Diversity and Inclusion initiatives related to recruiting and AAP; supports orientation for new hires and managers.
  • Performance Management and Employee Relations: Educates leadership on the Performance Management process; coaches employees and managers on employee relations; promotes an open door policy; investigates and determines actions for complaints.
  • Learning and Development: Educates and assists leaders on leadership development initiatives; facilitates training; uses TMS and LMS to manage learning activities.
  • Compensation and Benefits: Understands compensation practices; assists with annual changes and bonus payouts; plans benefits enrollment and retirement plans awareness.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Promotes GFS Diversity and Inclusion Vision and Guiding Principles
  • Absence Management: Manages workers' compensation and disability processes; uses applicable software.
  • Other Duties: Provides HR metrics insights; may perform administrative HR functions; conducts exit interviews.

Position Summary

Provides recruiting and selection, training and development, employee relations, and Gordon Food Service (GFS) cultural development advice, assistance and consultation to other departmental leaders at an expert level. Ensures that practices established by Home Office Human Resources are implemented and followed.

Location

the successful candidate must be able to work on-site at the Milton Distribution Centre 4 days a week, with schedule flexibility for occasional evening shifts.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruiting and Onboarding: Leads the sourcing and recruiting activities. Delivers interview skills training to managers. Supports Diversity and Inclusion initiatives related to the recruiting function and AAP. Supports the orientation process for new hires and managers.
  • Performance Management and Employee Relations: Educates and consults leadership on the Performance Management process, understands and leverages the Talent Management Suite, coaches employees and managers on employee relations performance, practice or policy issues, promotes the open door policy. Responds to, investigates and determines course of action for complaints from GFS employees or others in regards to Gordon Food Service.
  • Learning and Development: Educates and assists leaders on the GFS Leadership Development initiatives. Facilitates training and monitors required leadership training and development for completion and effectiveness. Utilizes TMS and LMS to manage learning and development activities.
  • Compensation and Benefits: Understands GFS compensation practices and policies and ensures leaders understand how to properly implement. Assists with the process for annual compensation changes and bonus payouts. Plans and supports benefits enrollment processes as well as educating employees and leaders on GFS retirement plans, benefits and wellness initiatives.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Understands and promotes GFS Diversity and Inclusion Vision and Guiding Principles
  • Absence Management: Manages and/or supports the administration of Workers Compensation, short and long term disability and FMLA using applicable software to manage processes.
  • Other Duties and Assignments: Provides insights on how to interpret HR metrics such as turnover, new hires, diversity and AAP. May perform administrative functions related to general human resources responsibilities to include processing unemployment claims, managing the training database, entering new hires and others as required. Administers exit interviews. Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience & Competencies
  • 5+ years of experience in HR or a similar role.
  • University degree in Human Resources or a related field is an asset.
