About the Opportunity

Heiltsuk Tribal Council has an exciting opportunity for aSenior Human Resources Managerto join our team in thebreathtaking and remote community of Bella Bella, British Columbia.

Reporting to the CEO, you will play a pivotal role in managing all HR activities, ensuring compliance with Heiltsuk Tribal Council policies and fostering a positive, culturally sensitive work environment.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and strategic HR initiatives, while mentoring and leading a developing HR team.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing effective recruiting strategies
  • Mentoring and coaching members of the HR team to build internal capacity
  • Screening candidates and organizing the interview process
  • Coordinating onboarding activities
  • Mediating workplace conflicts and enhancing employee engagement
  • Designing and managing performance appraisal processes
  • Overseeing employee benefits programs
  • Ensuring compliance with employment laws, the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights legislation, and internal HTC policies
  • Promoting diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency initiatives
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality and exercising sound judgment on when to act and when to advise

About You

In order to qualify for this role, you must holda Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR)designationanda Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. You will also need5-10+ years of human resources experience, includingmanagement and mentorship responsibilities, preferably ina nonprofit, First Nations, or mission-driven organization.An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Experience in a First Nations or Indigenous community organization is an asset but not required. We welcome candidates who are eager to learn and engage with the Heiltsuk Nation.

  • Proven ability to manage work issues with a background in peril
  • Understand and experience in employee benefits
  • Effective leadership, mentoring, and team management abilities
  • Demonstrated understanding of Payworks and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong employee relations and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactive with time management, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Cultural competency and willingness to learn about Heiltsuk traditions and First Nations governance
  • Confidence and discretion to provide sound advice and assertively advocate for best practices with Council when necessary

About the Benefits

Compensation based on skills and experience is a competitive annual salary of$100,000 to $115,000, negotiable for exceptional candidates, and a host of excellent benefits including:

  • Relocation assistance - up to $5,000 for moving expenses, plus an additional $5,000 if tenure is successful for departing moving costs
