Job summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is seeking a senior Operator Interface and GUI Designer to lead and mentor within the UX group. You will guide design practice, coach junior designers, and contribute as an individual contributor on complex embedded software and firmware projects.

Working in the Land & Joint Solutions area, you’ll apply user-centered design, prototype with tools like Axure and Adobe, and influence product roadmaps while embracing SAFe development.

Qualifications

• Passion for GUI design, UX, and/or HCI with mentoring experience.
• Experience designing front-end UIs for complex software/firmware from concept to low- and high-fidelity designs.
• Ability to build shared design practices and reusable standards to improve quality.
• Strong communication and collaboration, able to explain rationale and influence without direct supervision.
• Experience with human factors or human systems teams and user-centered design practices.
• Experience using GUI prototyping tools such as Axure, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop.
• Ability to translate GUI designs into assets, specifications, and guidance for development teams.
• Experience with AI/ML models is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and guidance in human computer interaction across roadmaps and lifecycles.
• Coach, train, and mentor junior GUI designers.
• Participate in interdisciplinary project teams and explain project context to designers.
• Develop GUI firmware on military embedded hardware or software using SAFe.
• Lead concept exploration and guide design approaches with junior designers.
• Explain use of AI/ML and coach on user-centered implementation.
• Identify and create UI requirements and analyses for implementation.
• Apply user-centered design and usability testing.
• Prepare, review, and provide feedback on design documents and specs.
• Develop training materials and reusable guidance for junior designers.
• Document analysis, design and test activities per standards.
