Job summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada seeks a senior Operator Interface and GUI Designer to provide technical leadership within the UX, Human Factors + Design group. You will mentor junior designers, guide interface concepts, and contribute to complex embedded software and firmware projects using SAFe methodologies.

Ideal candidates have strong GUI design experience, collaboration skills, and knowledge of AI/ML considerations for user-centered interfaces.

Qualifications

• Passion for GUI design, UX, and HCI with experience guiding designers.
• Experience designing front-end interfaces for complex software/firmware products.
• Ability to establish shared design practices and reusable standards.
• Strong communication to explain design rationale and influence without direct supervision.
• Experience with human factors teams and user-centered practices.
• Experience with GUI prototyping tools (Axure, Photoshop, Illustrator).
• Familiarity with AI/ML models is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in human computer interaction for product roadmaps and lifecycles.
• Coach and mentor junior GUI designers, review work, and build team capability.
• Partner in interdisciplinary teams to align design with user needs, rationale, and constraints.
• Develop GUI firmware or software designs for military embedded devices using SAFe.
• Translate user needs into practical interface concepts and guidelines.
• Create and review design documents, prototypes, and specifications for consistency and QA.
• Develop training materials and reusable design guidance for the team.
