Job summary

Scotiabank is seeking a senior Java developer to architect and deliver scalable, enterprise-grade systems. You will build microservices with Spring Boot, design APIs, and work across SDLC in a Cloud environment. The role emphasizes security, Agile practices, and collaboration with stakeholders within a wealth management context.

You will mentor teammates, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to an inclusive, high-performing culture in Toronto, Canada.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of work experience as a Java developer
• Experience building scalable, enterprise-level tech stacks with Java, SOAP and JSON
• Experience in application architecture and API design
• Proficient in building Microservices and Spring Boot
• Experience with Cloud Foundry and Kubernetes
• Experience across all phases of SDLC
• Proficient with Unix tools and shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) and SQL
• Experience in security systems and vulnerability analysis
• Version control and build tools (Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Maven)
• Knowledge of diverse tech frameworks and quick learning
• Strong grasp of Agile principles and wealth management workflows

Responsibilities

• Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships
• Deliver microservices in the cloud (Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure)
• Oversee project implementations and application integration
• Create technical documentation of the solution
• Support production issues and handle escalations during releases
• Mentor team members in best coding practices
• Troubleshoot technical issues and identify root causes
• Provide expert advice to key stakeholders
• Integrate risk appetite considerations into day-to-day activities
• Contribute to a high-performance, inclusive work environment
