About The Company

ConeTec is an international full-service geo-environmental and geotechnical site characterization contractor. We offer clients superior project management and site investigation services across the globe, with a large presence in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Oceania. Our Technology Development team is a multidisciplinary group of engineers and researchers working together to create innovative and reliable geotechnical equipment, specializing in the design and development of cutting-edge tools for subsurface exploration.

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced and innovative Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Technology Development team. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong foundation in firmware and electrical design, passionate about solving real-world problems in geotechnical and civil engineering domains.

You will lead the development of instrumentation and sensor systems used in infrastructure monitoring, soil and structural testing, and other critical applications. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will drive technical development from concept through deployment while mentoring junior engineers and helping shape our technology offerings.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and maintain embedded firmware for data acquisition and wireless monitoring systems
  2. Program microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, ARM Cortex-M, TIVA) in C/C++
  3. Implement communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN, with strong networking understanding (Ethernet, DHCP, TCP/IP)
  4. Optimize firmware for low power consumption and rugged operation
  5. Lead schematic design, PCB layout collaboration, and hardware prototyping
  6. Design and integrate analog/digital circuits and sensor systems
  7. Conduct system-level testing, including EMI/EMC and environmental validation
  8. Design electronics for long-term use in remote, outdoor environments
  9. Perform bring-up and validation of new boards and embedded systems
  10. Support deployment, troubleshooting, and iteration based on field performance
  11. Document firmware architecture and hardware integration procedures
  12. Work closely with geotechnical, mechanical, and software engineers
  13. Serve as a technical lead on projects and mentor junior engineers
  14. Coordinate cross-functional development efforts and ensure project timelines
Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. 10+ years of experience in electrical design and embedded systems development.
  2. Strong programming skills in C/C++ for microcontroller-based platforms (e.g., STM32, TIVA, ARM).
  3. Expertise in analog and digital circuit design, low-power systems, and sensor integration.
  4. Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, Eagle).
  5. Familiarity with environmental and geotechnical sensors (e.g., strain gauges, pressure transducers, tilt sensors, piezoelectric elements).
  6. Knowledge of EMC, rugged design, and IP-rated enclosures.
  7. Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-In-Training in British Columbia (or eligible to register)
  2. Ability to lead and mentor cross-disciplinary engineering teams
  3. Background in deploying electronics in outdoor or remote environments
  4. Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, Modbus, RS-485, CAN, etc.)
  5. Experience with data logging, wireless telemetry (LoRa, cellular, BLE), and remote monitoring systems.
  6. Involvement with low-power design and battery-operated systems
  7. Familiarity with geotechnical, civil, or structural monitoring applications
