Job Description

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Buildings BC team. The successful candidate can be based in any major BC city.

WSP’s electrical engineering engages in various projects in the commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, light industrial and transportation sectors across BC. Reporting to an Electrical Team Lead, this position will be responsible for electrical design, leading documentation preparation, construction reviews, administration, client communication and project management.

A day in the life:

• Design electrical systems for various building types and locations throughout BC and the Yukon, with PSPC Reliability clearance as a plus.
• Manage project assignments within the electrical buildings field, including power distribution, infrastructure, lighting, life safety, communications, data and security systems, from opportunity and proposal stages through design and construction.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and technicians on technical solutions, develop designs, and oversee project drawings and specifications.
• Communicate with clients, design team partners, authorities, and contractors.
• Design power distribution (normal and backup power), infrastructure, lighting, fire alarm, data, and security systems for healthcare and institutional/commercial buildings.
• Ensure electrical designs comply with BC Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, and other relevant codes.
• Practice safe work procedures and adhere to project budgets and timelines.
• Review existing systems, prepare condition reports, feasibility studies, load calculations, and select systems and equipment.
• Coordinate project drawings using CAD and BIM software.
• Participate in fee proposals and business development activities.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff.

Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer registration with EGBC.
• 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering consulting for buildings and infrastructure.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently and in teams.
• Leadership skills to guide project teams under tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD; experience with AGI or ETAP is an asset.
• Experience creating tender document packages and conducting site reviews.
• Extensive knowledge of building construction and electrical systems.
• Deep understanding of Canadian Electrical Code, BC Building Code, and National Building Code of Canada.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $105,800 to $145,400. Compensation is based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geographic location.
