Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, financial operations, or a related field.
  • Experience performing bank and general ledger reconciliations and working with financial or accounting systems.
  • Experience in banking, insurance, investment management, or another financial services environment is preferred.
  • CPA designation, or active progress toward a CPA designation, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting activities related to investment and fund products, including client transactions and cash movements.
  • Perform daily bank and cash reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve items promptly.
  • Review general ledger activity and identify unusual items or needed adjustments.
  • Reconcile commissions and review periodic commission reporting for accuracy.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities with reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Coordinate with auditors and internal/external partners for documentation and information requests.

Job description

The Senior Finance Analyst supports financial operations associated with investment products, client activity, cash management, and trust accounting. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, completing reconciliations, investigating discrepancies, supporting financial reporting, and strengthening operational controls.

Working within established objectives and reporting to a finance manager, the successful candidate will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure investment and cash-related activities are processed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable requirements.

This is an 18-month contract position covering a maternity leave. The role is 100% remote.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and support daily accounting activities related to investment and fund products, including client transactions, cash movements, fees, receivables, asset transfers, and related accounting entries.
  • Perform daily bank and cash reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and ensure outstanding items are resolved promptly.
  • Review general ledger activity and balances to identify unusual items, errors, or required adjustments.
  • Reconcile dealer or distribution-related commissions and review periodic commission reporting for completeness and accuracy.
  • Investigate accounting exceptions, balancing differences, and operational issues, performing root-cause analysis and implementing corrective or preventative actions.
  • Escalate significant, unresolved, or time-sensitive matters to appropriate management.
  • Work closely with internal departments, financial institutions, investment managers, administrators, service providers, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and obtain required information.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Investments, and other business teams to improve access to financial and operational data.
  • Support the development and implementation of process improvements, tools, controls, and procedures that enhance the accuracy and efficiency of accounting and cash-management activities.
  • Help communicate new procedures, provide training where required, and ensure process documentation remains current.
  • Consolidate information from multiple sources to support cash forecasting, liquidity management, portfolio-level cash reporting, and transfer requirements.
  • Perform daily cash-management activities, including forecasting anticipated cash flows, monitoring cash positions, reconciling investment and brokerage accounts, and preparing cash-position information for management.
  • Ensure investment transactions and related activities are accurately reflected in financial records and processed within established deadlines.
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close activities, including reconciliations, analysis, journal entries, and supporting documentation.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for accounting colleagues and business partners on complex or unusual transaction activity.
  • Ensure activities comply with applicable legislation, regulatory expectations, internal policies, controls, and established operating procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance internal controls and recommend practical solutions to reduce risk and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Prepare financial analysis, reporting, and other information required by management to support decision-making.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors by researching and providing documentation and information requested during audit activities.
  • Participate in finance, accounting, systems, and operational projects, taking ownership of assigned deliverables.
  • Work with project stakeholders to establish priorities, identify potential risks, and support appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Monitor assigned project activities to help ensure deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and according to agreed requirements.
  • Support onboarding, knowledge transfer, and development of new team members.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by management.
Qualifications and Experience
  • University degree or equivalent education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, financial operations, or a related field.
  • Experience performing bank and general ledger reconciliations and working with financial or accounting systems.
  • Experience in banking, insurance, investment management, or another financial services environment is preferred.
  • Exposure to trust accounting, investment accounting, or fund administration is an asset.
  • Familiarity with segregated funds, mutual funds, or similar investment products, including their operational, accounting, and regulatory considerations, is beneficial.
  • CPA designation, or active progress toward a CPA designation, is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet, database, and word-processing applications.
  • Experience working with insurance, investment, policy administration, or financial processing platforms is an advantage.
